How to Check Your Tron Energy Balance Before Sending USDT
Before you send USDT, you should know whether you have enough Energy — or whether your wallet will burn TRX to cover the fee. It takes about 10 seconds to check. Here's how to do it in TronLink, Trust Wallet, and TronScan.
- Check Energy in TronLink: wallet screen → scroll down → Energy bar.
- Check on TronScan: search your address → Resources tab.
- You need 65,000 Energy for a standard transfer, 130,000 for a new wallet.
- If you have 0 Energy, your transfer will burn ~13 TRX. Load Energy first to save half.
How to Check in TronLink
TronLink shows your Energy balance directly on the main wallet screen — you don't need to go into settings or menus.
- Open TronLink (mobile or browser extension)
- Make sure you're on the Assets tab (main wallet screen)
- Scroll down past your token list. Below your TRX and USDT balances, you'll see two resource bars: Energy (purple) and Bandwidth (green)
- The Energy bar shows your current units as a number (e.g. "65,000 / 65,000") and a fill percentage
If the bar shows 0 / 0 or is empty, you have no Energy. If it shows 65,000+, you have enough for a standard transfer. If you need 130,000 and only have 65,000, you'll need to load more.
Go to Send → enter the recipient address → look at Energy Required on the confirm screen. TronLink calculates the exact requirement for that specific recipient and shows whether you have enough. This is the most accurate method because it accounts for both the transfer type AND your current balance.
How to Check in Trust Wallet
Trust Wallet displays Tron resources within the TRX token details screen:
- Open Trust Wallet and tap TRX in your token list
- Tap the i (info) icon or "More details"
- Scroll to the Resources section — you'll see Energy and Bandwidth displayed as numbers
Trust Wallet also shows these resources on the transaction confirmation screen when you send USDT, so you can always see whether you have enough before approving.
How to Check on TronScan
TronScan is the Tron blockchain explorer — the equivalent of Etherscan for Ethereum. It gives the most detailed view of your resources:
- Go to tronscan.org
- Paste your Tron wallet address into the search bar
- Click the Resources tab on your account page
- You'll see Energy (available / maximum) and Bandwidth (available / maximum), plus a history of consumption
TronScan is useful if you want to see your full resource history, understand how much you've been spending per transfer, or verify that delegated Energy actually arrived in your wallet.
What Number Do You Need?
The minimum Energy required to send USDT depends on the recipient:
- 65,000 Energy — recipient has received USDT before (existing USDT storage slot)
- 130,000 Energy — recipient has never received USDT (new storage slot required)
If your current Energy balance is lower than what's required, the network will fill the gap by burning TRX. At 0 Energy, the full ~13 TRX (standard) or ~27 TRX (new wallet) is burned. At 32,000 Energy with 65,000 required, only the shortfall is burned.
The cleanest approach: load 65,000 or 130,000 Energy before every transfer, use it immediately, and never let TRX burn for fees.
LOAD ENERGY IN 3 SECONDS.
Send 4 TRX → receive 65,000 Energy → use it immediately. Your USDT transfer fee drops by 70%.
